What is the MissionFish deduction?
- As a registered charity (No. 1110538), MissionFish aims to cover its costs. We have no shareholders and any surpluses we may generate are reinvested in fulfilling our charitable purpose.
- Our costs and deductions are set out in detail below. Please note that MissionFish does not charge:
- Any fee to charities for registering with MissionFish to receive donations
- Any fees to Charity Direct Sellers for using eBay for Charity
- Any commission on Gift Aid, which is passed on in full
- Any additional processing costs or VAT to buyers, sellers or charities.
Costs we incur
- The majority of our costs are incurred in delivering the following services:
- Providing the technology behind eBay for Charity, and the legal and financial infrastructure that makes it possible
- Vetting charities that wish to register for eBay for Charity, and maintaining and enhancing the charity functions and information on eBay marketplaces
- Collecting, processing, accounting for and passing on donations and Gift Aid
- Providing customer support and advice to charities and (in some cases) to donors
- Helping charities manage their use of eBay for Charity, including the option to cancel inappropriate listings.
- We also incur additional costs associated with running a charity, such as legal advice, auditing costs, and regulatory compliance.
- You can learn more about our income and expenditure in our Annual Reports, published in the About Us section of this website.
Items sold by charities on eBay
- We make no deduction from any listings made by Charity Direct Sellers, and do not charge charities any fees for using eBay for Charity.
Cash donations
- We make an all-inclusive deduction of 5p on £1 cash donations made through eBay checkout. There are no additional deductions, such as processing charges or VAT, and no charge to the charities involved.
Donations from eBay sellers
- When eBay sellers donate the proceeds of a sale, MissionFish’s deduction is based on the size of the donation, and reflects the greater costs involved. The percentage we deduct gets smaller as the donation gets bigger. On average, MissionFish takes about 15% of each donation. For large donations, the deduction can be as low as 3%.
- We do not charge any additional processing costs or VAT to buyers, sellers or charities. In addition, 100% of the Gift Aid we claim from eBay Seller listings goes to benefiting charities.
