Hampton Hill School

Bill Jerman explains how eBay for Charity has given Hampton Hill school another avenue to raise funds for school projects.

“We were very conscious that we regularly asked our parents and carers for financial support in an increasingly difficult economic climate, so we looked for ways to broaden the range of people and organisations who supported us. - eBay provided the perfect answer! We chose to auction celebrity signed memorabilia, as we had a contact who had provided us with a few signed items to start.
- From this small beginning, things have really taken off. We have managed to contact a range of celebrities from sport, TV and film personalities. The response was been amazing. Each time we have run an auction there has been a specific target, for example, Art and Design Centre or Sensory Garden and each auction has run for approximately three months.
- We have a dedicated group of parents and staff who “load” the items onto eBay, manage the site and arrange prompt postage. This is a significant work load and needs a good number of people to “spread the load” but much of it can be done at home suits people.
- MissionFish has been excellent in providing a regular and accessible source of support and a straight forward way to register and get started.
- We have an build a presence on eBay, by creating an excellent ‘About Me’ page, which explains a bit about our school and what we are raising funds for. We advertise this and our auctions through our weekly newsletters, website and local press.
- It is a fantastic way to raise money and many of the celebrities and buyers have become good friends of the school and we keep in touch by email and make sure we send cards and our school calendar as a thank you at Christmas”
